About Peter Coughlan
After a childhood in Albury Peter moved to the big smoke of Sydney for University (Bachelor of Commerce at UNSW). The first 15 years of work was with an international accounting firm (the then Coopers & Lybrand – now PwC). The time with C&L included stints in Sydney, Newcastle and Gladstone involved primarily with business compliance and advisory work for small to medium sized businesses, plus four years in Vanuatu learning about life (and occasionally a bit of international tax planning).
Peter returned to Newcastle in 1992 and spent 15 years in Newcastle with a large regional firm (the then Lawler Partners – now PKF). This was again primarily in the business compliance and advisory area building a knowledge base of what makes a small to medium sized business successful, along with the odd observation of why some fail.
In 2007 he decided it was time to exit the accounting profession as he realised he could be of much greater value to clients by helping them focus on where they are and where they want to get to, rather than telling them where they’ve been.
